About Home Protection Plans
We explain home service contracts in the terms that decide whether one is worth buying: exclusions, coverage caps, service fees, and how claims are actually settled.
Who we serve
Our readers are homeowners with aging equipment and a limited repair budget. They are the family whose air conditioner failed in the second week of July, the first-time buyer whose inspection flagged a 14-year-old furnace, and the homeowner who just received a denial letter and cannot tell whether it was correct. They are not contractors, and nothing here assumes they are.
What we do
We publish guides on home warranties and home service contracts, on the difference between those and homeowners insurance, and on the maintenance and record keeping that keep claims from being denied. Every article is written to be useful whether or not you ever buy a plan, from us or from anyone else. Several of them explain when a plan is not worth the money.
We also send a free email guide and occasional updates to readers who ask for them. Signing up is optional, the consent choices are listed separately and are unchecked by default, and you can stop the messages at any time by replying STOP to a text or using the unsubscribe link in any email.
What we are not
Home Protection Plans is not a home warranty company, an insurance carrier, or a contractor. We do not issue home service contracts, we do not administer them, and we do not perform repairs or adjust claims. When you request a quote, we connect you with providers and marketing partners who offer these plans. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any government entity or agency.
Nothing on this site is legal advice or a promise of coverage. Contract language controls, it varies by company and by state, and the only document that describes your coverage is your own contract.
How we make money
We are paid by the providers and marketing partners we connect readers with. That relationship never changes what an article says. We do not accept payment to describe a plan as covering more than it does, and where a partner relationship affects what appears on a page, we say so on that page.
Editorial approach
Statements about how coverage works are tied to standard contract language, and we say when a provision varies by company. Cost figures carry the period we checked them, because parts and labor prices move. Where a practice differs by state, we say so rather than presenting one state's rule as national. When we get something wrong, we correct the article and note the correction.
